Basic EKG Interpretation
Course Description: This 8-hour course is designed for beginners with little to no experience reading EKGs. The curriculum is designed to teach students how to identify normal and abnormal waveforms, sinus, atrial, and ventricular, and rhythms, as well as heart blocks
Who Should Enroll: The course is designed for EMTs, Nurses and similar technicians who have not yet learned to interpret arrhythmias or MI patterns.
Curriculum:
- Introduction to physiology of EKGs
-Difference between use of 3- and 12- lead EKGs
- Critical interval measurements (PR interval; QRS duration; QTc)
- Bradycardias (slow rhythms)
- Tachycardias (fast rhythms)
- PEA & Asystole
- Heart blocks
- Proper 12 lead placement
- Basic 12 Lead MI pattern recognition
Recommended Reading: Studentst are strongly encouraged to obtain a copy of Barbara Aehlert’s ECGs Made Easy and review the basic arrhythmia patterns prior to class.
